Why are old photos and old buildings so inspiring? They are mysterious because we look at them through the fog of time, wondering what it would it would have been like to be there. They also demand respect because they have stood the test of time, a testament to thier builders and designers. Also, they are loved in some way, otherwise they would have long since been razed for a newer, prettier, or more modern alternate. People don’t stand in front of bulldozers for ugly buildings that have outlived thier usefulness. Much of our efforts and work as designers and our philosophy about architecture gets its impetus from our admiration of design work that was done hundreds of years ago.
